The art of the impactful introduction
👉 Be influential. Build a culture of open communication in the Community. 👊
You’ve been given an opportunity to work with a new group, run a meeting, or present on a topic, and your contact asks, “How do you want to be introduced?”
And what do we usually do?
We send a bio.
“Hi, my name is… I’m from… we do…”
What a lost opportunity.
Nobody cares about your bio or even your impact.
They care about themselves.
W.I.F.M.?
People aren’t asking, “Is this good?” They’re asking, “Is this good for me?
Relevance beats brilliance every time.
So, when a client asks how to introduce me, I say something like:
“Tell them why you brought me in.”
“Tell them what you want them to get out of this.”
“Tell them why this matters.”
Because that’s what people are actually listening for.
Everyone in that room is asking one question:
“Why should I care?”
A bio answers, “Here’s who this person is.”
A good introduction answers, “Here’s why this matters to you.”
Big difference.
So instead of listing credentials, give your introducer something useful:
“We brought Dan in because our team needs to handle tough conversations better…”
“Today’s session is about helping you speak up with confidence…”
“If you’ve ever avoided a difficult conversation, this will help…”
Now people lean in.
Now they’re paying attention.
Because you didn’t start with you. You started with them.
