You don’t need a monastery
🎯 Want more influence at work? Learn to influence with confidence. 🎯
For most of us, spiritual growth doesn’t come from detaching from the world like a monk.
It comes from our relationships.
Relationships are where we learn patience, tolerance, self-awareness, humility, courage, forgiveness, and restraint.
Here are five ways that becoming a better communicator raises your consciousness.
1) You Notice Your Triggers
Someone interrupts you.
Unconscious: “Stop cutting me off.”
Conscious: “I get frustrated when you cut me off. Can I finish my finish my thought?”
That pause — between reaction and response — is awareness.
You learn to get grounded and speak with intention, rather than as a reflexive bundle of nerves.
2) You Separate Facts From Stories
Your boss says, “Let’s revisit this.”
Story: She hates my idea.
Conscious reply: “What would you like improved?”
You stop resisting what is by checking the story you’re telling yourself.
3) You Take Responsibility
Unaware: “He makes me so angry.”
Aware: “I felt embarrassed.”
One gives away power.
One keeps it.
You can own your emotions rather than blaming others.
4) You Hold Two Truths
“I see why that matters to you, but here’s how I see it.”
Not domination, nor submission.
Integration.
5) You See People as Mirrors
What traits in others irritate you most?
The “controlling” colleague. The “too sensitive” teammate.
Often, they reflect something unexamined inside yourself.
Instead of diagnosing them, you can ask: “Why is this hitting me?”
That question alone raises consciousness.
You don’t need a monastery; just have the hard conversation.
