Never delegate tasks

"Can you put this presentation together?"

"Can you organize the offsite?"

You’ve just delegated a checklist.

Strong leaders don’t delegate tasks; they delegate roles. Ownership.

Instead of saying, "Can you do this?" say, "You're in charge of this."

When someone is in charge of a project’s success, they're no longer just completing assignments. They're making decisions, anticipating problems, coordinating with others, and taking responsibility for the outcome.

You're no longer the project manager. They are.

"You’re in charge here. The buck stops with you. Come to me if you need support."

The person you've entrusted grows in confidence, judgment, and fulfillment because they're solving problems instead of simply following instructions. They begin thinking like an owner, not a dependent.

You benefit, too. Instead of becoming the bottleneck for every decision, you're free to focus on the work that only you can do. Your team becomes more capable, more accountable, and less dependent on you.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: High expectations. High support.
