Write like John Irving

It’s Friday, let’s keep it short. Here’s a writing tip from master novelist, John Irving.

Irving starts all his novels by writing the last line first.

Try it with your next email. It will force you to think about everything that comes in front of it, before you write a single word.

Keep in mind that writing is re-writing, and Irving may re-write his final line dozens of times before he’s actually finished, so give yourself permission to do the same.

Have a great weekend.
And if you haven’t yet, read A Prayer for Owen Meany. You can thank me later.
