The brain hates work

😬 Because “per my last email” isn’t an effective communication strategy. Become influential and create a culture of open communication. 😬

Most presentations, emails, and explanations frustrate because they make the audience work.

And the brain hates work.

When leaders hear your pitch or scan your email, they’re unconsciously asking two things:

  • Is this useful? (Because I need results).

  • Is this easy? (Because I don’t have time).

Long emails, decks, and explanations fail at both.

So flip the script. Plan every message from just three bullets:

  • Problem – What’s happening

  • Impact – Why it matters

  • Recommendation – What to do

Try it…

“Client onboarding is taking over 10 days (target is 5), which is delaying revenue recognition and hurting the client experience, so we should add a temporary onboarding specialist for the next 30 days.”

“Weekly meetings are running 90 minutes, costing the team roughly 10 hours of productivity each week, so we should cap meetings at 45 minutes and require agendas.”

Do the thinking for them.

Reduce their cognitive load.

Make the decision obvious.

Mark Twain said, “If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.”
