I don’t know about you, but I only eat the stuffing that’s been in the bird

You know what I’m talking about — the real deal.

The stuffing that soaks up the flavor, holds the heat, makes you go back for seconds.

No thank you to dry, bland Imposter Stuffing.

Same goes for expressing gratitude.

Too many people serve up the bland thank-you’s:

  • “Thanks for your help.”

  • “Appreciate you.”

  • “Great job.”

Nice? Sure. But forgettable, and certainly not meaningful.

Here’s how to stuff your thanks with real flavor — the kind that impacts, from Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication:

  1. Say what they did.

  2. Say how it made you feel.

  3. Say what need it met.

“Thanks for handling the prep work this morning. I felt calm and supported, because I really needed some peace and quiet before the chaos hit.”

“I appreciated how you pushed back in the meeting — it made me feel confident we’re aligned on doing what’s right.”

“Thanks for picking up groceries — I felt better walking into dinner because I needed one less thing on my list.”

That’s juicy.

That’s inside-the-bird stuffing.

It hits differently:

  • It’s specific — no guessing what you're grateful for.

  • It’s emotional — so it connects instead of bouncing off.

  • It’s about needs — which signals real appreciation, not flattery.

I’m so grateful you read (and comment on) the 2 Minute Tip — it helps me feel connected to a thoughtful community, keeps me motivated to keep writing, and confirms my purpose is helping people communicate with more clarity and courage.

I appreciate you.

Happy Thanksgiving.
