Give them the illusion of power

Ever felt backed into a corner?

It happens when we’re told rather than consulted.

You feel powerless, even if the proposal makes sense.

Human beings hate to have their power taken away.

Use this psychology to more effectively get your needs met.

Parents do this with young children.

“Which outfit would you like?”

“Do you want carrots or broccoli with your dinner?”

This helps them feel like they have a choice in the matter. Of course, that choice is limited to options the parents deem acceptable.

You can even let people with power over you retain a sense of power and control with a statement like, “Of course, it’s your call, but here’s why I think we should take this approach.

In the 48 Laws of Power, Robert Green advises, "When it comes to power, outshining the master is perhaps the worst mistake of all."
