Get clarity and buyin - part 1

In our 5 Behaviors™ of a Cohesive Team workshops, we talk a lot about how to ensure that everyone on a team is on board with the team’s decision.

We’ve all been on teams where individuals don’t support decisions they personally disagree with.

Sometimes, it’s just because not everyone was clear on the decision.

Here’s a technique leaders can use to make sure everyone is crystal clear.

After a big decision has been made, simply go around the room and have everyone express in their own words what they heard the decision to be.

It sounds simplistic, but boy, oh boy, will you find out if everyone is clear and on board.

You may even hear wildly different perceptions about what was decided, and even some dissent.

That’s your opportunity to clarify and address people’s concerns.

Doing this before you go public with the decision may just save you some embarrassment.
